News update: June 15, 2011

“The Expendables 2” has a director. Simon West (“Con Air”) will helm the sequel, which we can hope will see the return of stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li, according to Deadline.

The original was a guilty pleasure, and it was made all the more entertaining under Stallone’s direction. He gets the material. I’m not sure West will.

Production begins this summer.
