News update: June 9, 2011

Sony Pictures has put John Hlavin on the screenplay for its adaptation of the board game Risk, Deadline reported today.

Hlavin has written for “The Shield” and worked on the script for Paramount’s “Underworld: New Dawn,” which is scheduled for release later this year.

Diego Luna will join the cast of Neill Blomkamp’s sophomore feature, “Elysium,” according to =Variety.

Little is known of the sci-fi film, which also stars Matt Damon, Jodi Foster, Sharlto Copley and many others. It is scheduled for a March 1, 2013 release date.

In other casting news, Deadline reported that Jason Bateman will star opposite Vince Vaughn in Jeremy Garelick’s directorial debut “The Insane Laws.”

Garelick is best-known as one of the writers for the Vince Vaughn-Jennifer Aniston movie “The Breakup.”
