News update: May 23, 2011

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Hangover Part II” is on track to open with more than $100 million this weekend, which would be the first movie to do so in several months and the first R-rated movie ever to achieve the feat.

THR says that some observers are even predicting an opening as high as $120 million, also noting that the movie will have a four-day weekend advantage with Memorial Day.

Not exactly what I would have expected when first looking at the summer release schedule, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never underestimate males between the ages of 18 and 40.

If only “One Night at McCool’s” was slated for a 2012 release date. A reboot, perhaps?

Trailer(s) of the day:

Because there was a bit of a drought in (real) movie news today, I’m going to give you two trailers for movies that I’m really psyched about. The first is “Straw Dogs,” starring James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgard and directed by Rod Lurie. The second, well, just watch.
